The setup: On a late September evening, Pfc. Clinton Mettler of Fort Lewis was driving home. He was somewhat distracted and missed his regular turn. He came upon a stopped car where a woman was slumped over the wheel with a medical problem. What he did: Mettler broke out a window and removed the woman from the car. After checking for a pulse he began to administer CPR while others called for help. The woman was taken to the hospital and made a full recovery. John and Margaret Farrell From: Bonney Lake. The setup: The couple were entertaining friends on their boat in Commencement Bay in November when they witnessed a midair collision that sent one aircraft into the bay.
